Browning 22 caliber long rifle - value/authenticity
Question
Hi Jim, I found/purchased a Browning 22 caliber semi-auto long rifle at a yard sale recently for $50 and would like to check the approximate value and authenticity. Here is what I know about the gun: serial #71T61182, engraving around both sides look more like a flower design rather than the prairie dog or duck design as mentioned in your other correspondence. Stamped on the barrel is Browning Arms Co. Morgan, Utah and Montreal, PQ or PO (hard to read) Made in Belgium. The gun is clean and in very good condition. Loads, fires, and discharges without any problems. Can you please shed some light on what this gun might be worth. Thank-you in advance for your help.
Answer
Kate,
Value depends on condition and originality. It is hard to determine value without seeing it. It is a grade I that was made in 1971. If it was/is New in Box it is currently worth about $700-$800. Price can go down fairly quickly as condition goes down. Sometimes they came with an Airways or Hartmann leather case. The cases are worth a few bucks again depending on condition.
