Western Field Model SD59 Rifle .22LR
Question
Dear Sir: Years ago I inherited a Western Field model SD59 rifle from my dad. He attempted to perform some mofifications to the sear and make the rifle a full automatic at some point after he got out of the army in 1956. This did not work as the rifle will empty the entire magazine and is not controllable. Do you know of a source for parts that I might purchase a new trigger and sear for this rifle that would reverse the modifications that have been attempted? Also, I need an inner magazine tube. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Kurt
Answer
Hello Kurt. First I should say that I am not a licensed gunsmith and will not give any technical advise. However, I did check with one of my favorite parts warehouses and did find parts for the Stevens Model 87 .22 caliber semi-auto rifle. I believe this is the actual manufacturer and model your Western Field Model SD59 was copied from for Montgomery Wards. It was manufactured in the late 1930's to mid 1940's. The company is Numrich Gun Parts Corp. at www.gunpartscorp.com. Another parts source is Bob's Gun Parts at www.gun-parts.com. There are many other parts companies, so if you do not find your parts here, keep trying. There were thousands of these guns made. I hope this will help find your parts and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
