gun value

Question
Curious as to the general value of a Ruger .22 single six revolver.. It is either a 4 3/4 or 5 1/2 inch barrel depending on where i measure from.. it has the gun mathched .22 magnum and .22 long/short rifle cylinders.. The gun is in excellent condition...
thankyou

Answer
Michael,

The length of the barrel does have an effect on the value, so knowing the correct barrel length is important.  To correctly measure the barrel length, unload the gun and then insert a wooden dowel or something similar into the barrel until it touches the front face of the cylinder.  Mark the dowel at the muzzle end just where it exits the barrel.  Measure the length of the dowel to the mark and that will give you the correct barrel length.

Your gun is a Single Six Convertible.  It came in a 4 5/8", 5 1/2", 6 1/2" and 9 1/2" barrel lengths.  The 4 5/8 is the rarest version.  It was manufactured between 1962 and 1972.  In 95% condition, the 5 1/2" barrel is worth around $250.  If in 98% condition, perhaps as much as $350.

For the 4 5/8" barrel, the values would be around $100 more in each case.  If you have the original box, that is probably worth another $100-$150 in value.

The serial number ranges can help you confirm which one you have.  If you have a 5 1/2" barrel, the serial number range starts at 194000.  For the 4 5/8" barrel, the range starts at 428000.

Hope this helps you out...
