I have a long rifle- smooth bore percussion type that i need help identifying. the picture attached focuses in on the stock/hammer area, since that seems to be characteristic part that is different from most in that era. thanks for the help
AnswerHello Mike.
Are there any identifying marks, numbers or names on your rifle? Check it very closely. If you can remove the barrel without damaging the rifle, check there also. There were dozens of independent gun makers that were called into service during the Civil War era. If there are no names on it, I would assume that it was one of these. The stock and receiver are different than most that served there. Follow-up with this information and we can go from there. Thank's, Charles Gage
