My grandfathers shotgun
Question
I was wondering if you could tell me some info on my grandfathers shotgun ? It is a 12 gauge single shot that has Pioneer Arms Co stamped on . The number on the barrel is 593982 as best as I can tell. It was given to my dad and he gave it to me several years ago. Some day I will pass it on to mine but I'd love to know something about it before it gets too old and its too late. Thanks for your time

Answer
Hello Brian Slayback.
Your shotgun was manufactured by The Crescent Firearms Company. Crescent manufactured shotguns from the late 1800's to 1954. Around 1900, they merged with two other gun companies, N.R Davis and H.D. Folsum. Shortly after that they began manufacturing and importing shotguns for well over a hundred hardware and department stores in the U.S. Your Pioneer Arms Company shotgun was one of these. They were a low cost, but good quality, firearm priced for the general public. Just about every rural household had one. They are not rare or generally collectable, but many are still safely useable today (gunsmith approved, of course).
I hope this helps answer your question and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
