Old pistol

Hi Charles,

I was given a box of things that were my Grandfathers who has passed away and in a box I found a old revolver. I found a post and pic of this exact pistol on this site and a gentleman asked you what kind of gun it was. His post was on 8-12-12. Here is the response you gave him....." I have changed your question from private to public, since I only answer questions for the public. Your revolver is one of thousands of cheap copies, imported from Spain and Belgium, that flooded the United States from 1910-1936. The only thing original to your revolver are the grips. I would recommend not firing this revolver.

Hello Andy.
  First, Andy, I would like to explain why I choose not to answer private questions. I spend  hours in research to answer questions that will benefit anyone showing interest in the same subject, as you have found. However, I never make private questions public that contain personal information. Now to answer your questions.
  Some revolvers, of this type, were imported into the United States during the time Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works sales were down. Spanish and other foreign firearms manufactures began to copy American gun companies, in order to capture the sales with lower priced, cheaper quality firearms. Many of the parts used in these revolvers had less quality inspections, or none at all, in order to save costs. The value of authentic I.J., H&R, and other revolvers like these, has never been considered high. Prices on these generally run from $75 to $150. On a copy, you may find prices less. The reason I recommend not firing one of these copies, is that the chamber and barrel pressures were generally in the blackpowder pressure ranges, unless otherwise noted on the revolver.
  It is very exciting to find such a treasure in a box. Especially one from our grandfathers past. The stories that must be connected with these things, especially involving such an iconic item as a firearm. Thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
