U,S, Revolver Co. Inc.
Question
I have a U.S. Revolver Co., Inc. pistol with no cyclinder & pin. I think it is a .32 or .38 cal. The number on it is 85688, no letter prefix. The frame is solid, little or no rust. Do you have any info. on this pistol. What Caliber? Do you know where I can purchase the cylinder and pin?
Answer
Hello Gil.
Your U.S. Revolver Co. solid frame revolver, was manufactured by Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works in Fitchburg, Mass., from 1911-1933. These were quality revolvers manufactured solely for the mail order trade. It could be either a .32 S&W or .38 S&W. The bore diameter will determine which. The serial number you give, 85688, was manufactured in 1919. The top strap should be without a sighting groove. The rear sight on your revolver, would be a notch cut in the nose of the hammer. There were approximately 10,000 made in 1919.
You ask about a source for parts. There is one company that I found, which lists a cylinder and pin. Bob's Gun Parts at www.gun-parts.com. However, this revolver only has a current value of between $40 and $100, depending on condition. The cylinder and pin will cost approximately $80, if you can find one. Then it would need to be custom-fit to your revolver.
I hope this helps answer your questions, and thanks for asking for me. Charles Gage
