Ivers Johnson
Question
Good Morning,
I was hoping to address my question to Mr. Gage as he has answered a lot of questions (I've read them all) about Ivers Johnson Safety Automatic Revolvers. I apologize now in case my question is directed incorrectly, but I see Mr. Gage is on Holiday (English term) until 2014. WOW!!
I came into possession of an Ivers Johnson Safety Automatic Pistol (along with two more modern semi auto pistols) and three boxes of ammo (this is helping to lead to my question)as follows:
1) 80 grain 32 Short Colt
2) 71 grain 32 Automatic
3) 88 grain S&W
My question is which version, two or three, am I in possession of (I may want to shoot it)? The information I have been able to get is as follows:
The revolver was blued, with an external hammer, five shot cylinder which locks up when the revolver is closed, in .32 cal.
Stamped on the barrel rib: Ivers Johnson Arms and Cycle Works, Fitchburg Mass USA
Frame markings (bottom of grip): PAT Nov 17,02 Pat Pending
On the bottom of the trigger guard: 94743
I would have removed the left grip to retrieve the serial number there and see if I have a leaf or coil spring but at the moment the grip screw is soaking in Kroil which I hope will free it up.
Thank you for your time in this matter and again my apologies if this question is miss directed.

Sounds like you have a .32 break open, but not sure without pic.
