IJ Supershot Sealed Eight 22lr
Question
Hi Charles, I have the above revolver serial 71XX on the bottom of the trigger guard. I would say the pistol is in 95%+ cond. I've fired about half a box of 22lr since I've had it then the firing pin through the hammer or the transfer bar will not strike the shell casings. A very young "gunsmith" at a local shooting range told me the firing pin was broken. Since the gun is in such nice shape and looks like it hasn't been handled nor fired that much it doesn't sound right. I know this is skimpy info, but I'd like your take on it.
Thanks in advance, Rich
Answer
Hello Rich.
You are correct about the grip. It was a 'grip slip' I made. I do so much research on the .32 & .38 caliber Top Break Safety Automatic's that do have the two sided grips. The SuperShot Sealed Eight does have a one piece checkered walnut grip called the HI-HOLD grip by the factory. The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the trigger guard and left side of the grip frame. You will still need to take the grip off to find the letter pre-fix. It will most likely be an 'L' making it a first model manufactured in 1933. I don't have any data on the third model 'A' serial numbers for the SuperShot Sealed Eight at this time. It was a 'slip', and am very sorry if it caused any problems. Thank you for your ratings. Charles Gage
