Question
Hi Rod: Wrote to you before regarding choice of rifle for target shooting. Thanks for the advice. Within budget got a Remington 700 bolt action .243 cal with syn stock. Getting info on scopes to go with it. I'd like to tackle targets beyond 100 yards. What would you recommend as far as specs and brand ? A new range just opened up locally and I am anxious to get started. Thankyou for your help........... Glenn
Answer
Howdy Glenn,
Sorry for the late reply.
What will be the longest range you expect to shoot at? A .243 has a useful range of about 600 yards, even out to 1000 if it's a custom gun. Assuming that you might shoot out to 600 at silouettes, you probably want an adjustable, perhaps a 6-24x with either a 44 or 50mm objective. Generally speaking, when it comes to optics to you get what you pay for, especially when it comes to clarity and repeatability. If you can afford it, go with a Leupold. If not, a Bushnell will do the job but it won't have the same clarity. You'll want target knobs so you can make scope adjustments without moving from your gun. Hope that helps :) -Rod-
