Aiming

Question
My housemate recently purchased an air pistol and I was hoping you could tell me the basics of aiming. I've read that a comfortable stance is a good stance, but am wondering about the details of using the sight. I'm not sure whether to keep both eyes open, aim only with one eye, etc. Any tips in general will be really appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time!
Answer
The most popular handgun firing stance is the weaver style. For a righthander, grip the handle with the right hand. place the first three fingers of the left hand over the bottom three fingers of the right hand. The little finger ends up resting below the right little finger. The left thumb on top of the right thumb.
Push the gun out with the right arm extended 3/4 of fully out. Pull back slightly with the left arm. This tension helps to steady the aim. For open sights, align the front sight within the rear sight and the top aligned with the target. After practicing a while, you can keep the gun aligned and only concentrate on placing the front sight on the target. You sight with the right eye, but I keep both eyes open. (Normally, the same eye is dominant as the hand. If you have cross dominance, a little experimentation may be needed. You may need to close the non sighting eye.)
I forgot about the feet. The left foot is a little forward of the right, angling the body to slightly face the right with the right shoulder a little back. The feet about shoulder width apart.
Try to control breathing and trigger squeeze so that the shot breaks as you are holding your breath, but not straining to hold it.
Hope this helps!
