Question
Hi Kyle: I bought my wife a single action 22LR pistol that she loves to shoot. It came with an added cylinder to shoot 22WMR. I shot it at the range and was really surprised at the 'bite' this cartridge has. I'm into rifles but does any gun maker offer a 1911 style semi-auto pistol in .22WMR. ? Ruger has .17HMR but their pistols look like ugly German WWII Lugers... Yeecchh !
Thanks..............Glenn
Answer
Glenn,
I don't know of any 1911-style arms that chamber the .22WMR cartridge. I believe the cartridge length may be too great to be accomodated by the 1911's internal dimensions.
Kimber does, however, make a kit for $250 that will convert any mil-spec (or near to) 1911 into a .22 LR with no tools needed; you just swap out the slide and barrel with the one provided in the kit and use the supplied magazine.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1911-style gun or conversion kit for the .17HMR in the near future though as that little bottlenecked beauty has really captured the imaginations of the shooting public and gun makers alike.
Wish I could have helped you more, if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Kyle
