Reloading .300 WSM

Question
I am new to reloading and have been trying to read up on everything possible. I am reloading .300 Winchester Short Magnum.
On the Nosler website it says that the bullet diameter is .308. And when refering to my Lyman 48th Edition Reloading Handbook the diameter is shown as .309. Which is the correct bullet to use?
Answer
Stephen,
I wish I could be more helpful but I don't reload my own ammo and don't have my copy of Speer's reloading manual handy. I do, however, know there are some tiny variations between bullets made by different manufacturers. It may be that Nosler doesn't make a .309-caliber bullet and so recommends using their .308-caliber rounds in the .300 WSM cartridge.
You may do better to contact Winchester for the definitive answer as to the best bullet to use, although it may be that both bullets will work with the cartridge and it'll take some fine-tuning of your load recipe to get the best results based on the bullet diameter used, powder type and amount, etc.
I wish I could have been more helpful, but as I said I don't reload myself so I don't have any first hand knowledge to share. Sorry about that.
