right-handed, left-eyed

Question
Hi Dave,
My wife and I are considering buying a handgun and taking some of the NRA courses some time soon. We just realized that she's right-handed, but left-eyed. What's the best way for such a person to shoot a handgun? Is it to shoot the handgun right-handed, using her right eye, or is it to shoot left-handed using her left eye.
Thanks,
Jon
Answer
That's a difficult question, and various experts will answer either way. I can tell you my opinion.
I have two sons, identical twins, one is right eyed and one is left eyed. I let them try both ways, and they finally settled on both shooting right-handed.
I've read that you can be one eye dominant, and at a later time become dominant with the other eye. It doesn't make sense to me that this would necessitate changing hands.
So, my opinion is to shoot with the dominant hand. You can use the dominant eye, or trian the other eye for use in shooting by wearing glasses with a piece of frosted tape in the focus area over the eye that is not used for aiming.
Hope this helps!
Dave
