Hi Dave, I have zero hands...

Question
Hi Dave,  I have zero hands on experience with guns and there is something I always wondered about.  If loaded cartridges are placed randomly in a box and they are jostled around (like in a car ride) is there any chance that a primer might be banged and a round goes off?  Or does a primer need to be struck very hard to ingite the powder?  What about rimfire cartridges?   Also, suppose I wanted to buy a gun and get some instruction--what would be the best way to go about that.  Thanks very much.

Answer
A very hard and concentrated strike is needed to ignite the primer, so both centerfire and rimfire cartridges are safe even if they are jostled around in the car.

The best way to learn to shoot is to find a local gun club and show up at a meeting.  You are sure to find people willing to help.  Then sign up for their "NRA Basic Pistol course".

Hope this helps!

Dave
