Question
I was recently given this gun from a friend and would like to know more about the year it was made, the gauage and value? The only numbers I find on all 3 pieces is #D7163(which appears to be serial numbers). Also the barrels are only 22 inches...is this the correct length or has it been shortened? Thank you for your help and any other information you may have for me.
Answer
Hi
N.R. Davis & Sons were manufacturers of percussion, and later, cartridge shotguns from 1853 to 1919. Davis shotguns were extremely well made and lived up to the companies motto "As Good As The Best". Retail values range from $100 in poor condition to $800 in fine condition depending on age, grade and model.
The barrels that are only 22 inches very likily
was shortened to remove the chokes or because
of a barrel buldge. I would have this examined by a gunsmith before firing it. They can also determine the condition.
