AnswerI do not recommend shooting this pistol due to safty concerns. Do so only at your own risk.
The California Dept. of Justice banned the manufacture and sale of this handgun after extensive testing. The testing revealed that this handgun often exhibited the following:
parts falling off, misfires, magazines dropping out, and slide release problems. The pistol also was originally designed so that the manual saftey had to be set to "fire" before the gun could be unloaded. NOT GOOD !
Also a note of interest, it has been reported that Jimenez Arms filed an application to manufacture the firearms in Henderson NV. to avoid the restrictions that were in place in California.
I will refrain from recommending any paticular brand of handgun to replace it with, but in my opinion replace it you should. There are many fine firearm manufactures that produce a product that is both budget minded AND safe. However, most (if not all) will outprice the Jimenez. You DO get what you pay for !
If the cost of a new "name brand" handgun is cost prohibitive, I would suggest to shop the used gun market. Many fine used handguns are sold in nearly new condition for a greatly reduced price. Check out your local dealers, gun shows, and the net (IE. Gunbroker.com) and I'm sure that your patients will be rewarded.
Good Luck & Be Safe !
