Identification of Mauser bolt action type rifle

Question
I inherited a rifle with a mauser type bolt action receiver, but have been able to establish what brand of rifle it is. The barrel is stamped .244 Rem only, so I'm assuming the rifle was built on a mauser type receiver. The safety is unusual in that it has an approx 1 inch "cap" on the end which with a short lever handle on it to turn the safety. You have to push rather hard on the spring loaded "cap end" and turn it. It is somewhat harder to take the safety off. The cap is finely engraved so as to get a good purchase on the safety. I orignially thought this might be a sporterized WWII era surplus military receiver, but I can't find this type safety. The previous owner was a target shooter. I can't wait to fire this weapon as it has a recoil reducer on the muzzle and it is very light. I think it must have been built for his wife as the .244/6mm round would not have too much recoil. Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Col. Maurer,
This sounds like a custom燽uilt rifle.
I would ask around your local area and find out who is the most respected gunsmith. I would have it looked at by that person. They should be able to at least tell you about the componets used in it. I doubt anyone could tell you much without physically seeing the rifle.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
