Answer
Hi Rich,

The Walther  Model PP was first produced in 1929 and was one of the first successful double action pistols. This pistol was often issued to the German troops. The original caliber was .32 ACP but it was also manufactured in other calibers such as the .380 ACP and .22LR.

The "PP" is a designation that the original use was for police (Police Pistol)  In 1940 the Germans changed from a crown over N to the Eagle over N. Post war PP's also had a Eagle over N but with a updated version of same.  This is a stamping that indicates it was "proofed" for Nitro/Smokeless Powder.

Walther PP's manufactured at Ulm (the Ulm that you describe)were for commercial sale and have the "antler proof" of Ulm.  The two digit number preceding the antler denotes the year of manufacture.

The Model PP 7.65 was the most popular. The pistol had a 3.86" barrel, overall length of 6.7" and weighed 23.5 oz.

Thank you for the question
