Stolen Gun

Hi Sid -
My husband LITTERALLY found a gun while working the other day. It was put in a zippered bag and buried. His hobby is re building guns & would love to take a stab at this one, but wants to know if it is "hot." So I am looking for a website that I can enter the serial number on to see if it is wanted. Do you know of a website I can look at?

Based upon my experience, finding a buried gun is never a good thing and I'm betting that there is a "history" there. Further, you have no way of knowing but what the firearm has not been used in a crime.

I would advise you to contact your local law enforcement agency or county sheriff, advise them of the circumstances of your husband's find, and turn the gun over to them for further investigation.

They will have access to computer files (N.C.I.C.) in which they can enter the ser. # and determine if it has been reported stolen or anything.

The agency that investigates will be able to advise you as to what proceedures will be followed concerning future ownership of the firearm based upon local/state laws and departmental policy.

Its good that you ask and are looking into this. Please protect yourself and aid law enforcement by reporting this a.s.a.p.
