Question
I own a National Firearms 12 guage pump shotgun with an outside hammer my father had bought this gun at an auction in the late 30s to early 40s I was hoping you could date it and identify it.     A29976 and 12 ga. on the barrel are the only numbers I can find on it. Anything you could do to help would be appreciated.

Answer
Rudy,

The National Firearms Co. made guns in the U.S from 1866 to 1870.Marlin also used the name on their mod. 20 shotgun. The National Firearms guns were manufactured by Allen Arms Co., Crescent Firearms Co. and Marlin after 1915.

These were trade name and/or store guns which are not of any great interest to collectors. The value of the gun that you list is probably no more than $100 to $125 and that would be in good condition.

Thanks for the question.
