Question
am looking at a stevens 311 H in 16 guage. am not up on what the H is for. suppose made after theA or E. is tight and bluing is good. forend has some checkering but none on the stock. one or the other probably replaced serial number starts with a B. any info on age and reasonable price.

Hi Van,
The shotgun is a Stevens model 311H hammerless boxlock. The "H" is nothing more than the series.
On the ones that I've seen, the pistol grip on the stock was checkered and not the forearm. So your guess concerning same may be correct.
As a guide and not a quote, the gun in "good" condition should bring about $350 retail. If it has a vent-rib perhaps up to $400. With "good" being about the mid retail price range, you can add or subtract a bit depending upon the condition of the actual gun in question.
