Question
When did Henry Repeating Arms Company start making guns? How did they get the name Henry? I thought it was Benjamin Tyler Henry who pattened the henry rifle. How did they get to use the name Henry? Is there any family strings so to speak?
Thanks for the info in advance
Answer
>When did Henry Repeating Arms Company start making guns?
That Brooklyn based company opened about 10 years ago. You are correct that its named after Benjamin Tyler Henry. There is simply no connection at all between
the Henry Repeating Arms Company and Benjamin Tyler Henry. The modern company used the name Henry because they made modern version of the Henry Rifle. They needed no permission to do so.
The patients expired long ago, and Henry Repeating Arms Company as a name was never trade marked.
He was on employee of Oliver Winchester
at the New Haven Repeating Arms Company.
He was poduction manager. He had a patent on part of the lever action design 1860. In 1966 the Name of the company was changed to Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The updated Henry rifle was renamed model 1866 Winchester Rifle. Henry continued to work at the company 1873. He died in 1898.
