Hi Sid
I am looking for a synthetic stock set for my 1950's Browning Sweet 16 Auto-5.
I can find 'em for the 12 gauge, but not the 16.
Do you know where I can find such a stock set for this gun?...or...are they even made by anyone?
Thanks a lot for the help.

Pete,
I know that e-gunparts (www.e-gunparts.com) had some A-5 16ga. stocks but you will need to check current inventory and compatibility with the Sweet 16. Hopefully they will have what you need and/or be able to direct you to a location that can.
Good Luck and thanks for the question.

Answer
Hi Pete,
Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I contacted Browning Arms Parts/Service and spoke with a rep. I explained to him what I/we were in need of and ask if he knew of any aftermarket stock co. that could provide the stock in question.
I was informed by him that Browning stocks the replacement wood stock - "no problem". There are however a couple of small issues...... He advised that although they have the stock, they will need your gun to fit it. He claimes that needs to be done to make it fit properly to your 16.
With the cost of the stock, fitting and related parts, it will cost you between $200 to $250. The good news is that it will fit your gun exactly and be of the usual Browning quality. I did not ask what the turn around time would be however.
I really thought e-gunparts would be able to help you if anybody could, I'm a bit suprised by that one. In checking their inventory today, I see that they have 10 A-5 16ga. stocks but evidently they will not fit/work on the Sweet 16 (?) Anyway, at least I've located a source, cost, and confirmed for you that it can be purchased and installed.
For my own knowledge, I'm going to keep looking into this issue. If I find out any additional info (outside of Brn.Co.) I'll pass it along to you. As of right now, this is the best/only solution that I've found. My guess is that if another source is located it will probably be in a synthetick stock. However, I've not been able to confirm that yet.
I contacted the above individual at 1-800-322-4626. If you think you may be interested in additional info and/or want to pursue getting a replacement stock via Browning, give them a call. They were very patient and helpful.
