Question
Hi Sid, I have a retired US Marine friend who has a 1894 25 caliber rim fire serial#3684 manufactured by Stevens A&T Co. This rifle has round front sights, round barrel and adjustable range rear sights. Would you be so kind to tell us what you think this rifle costs? He believes that it was a one of a kind. Thanks....Jeff
Answer
Hi Jeff,
Based upon the information provided, it sounds like your friend has a Stevens "Favorite" rifle. They were chambered in the .25.
Based upon the caliber, my best guess is that he has either a No.12 which was chambered for the .25 with a 22" barrel and was made between 1911 and 1930. In "good" condition it would have a retail value of $250.
OR.........
A 1st Model Favorite that was also chambered in the .25. It has a removable sideplate on the right side of the receiver that is not found on any other model. There were only 1000 manufactured between 1893 and 1894. In "good" condition it has a retail value of $650.
I'm inclined to think that he probably has the No. 12 but I have no way of narrowing this down any better without inspecting the rifle.
If indeed it is some sort of "one of a kind" I do not have any knowledge of same nor any reference material to refer to.
I hope this helps. Thanks for the question.
