Adjusting a Leupold 2x7 scope

2016/7/22 9:21:52

Question
Sid,
Thanks for the help on the Winchester Model 100.  No problem in taking it down, cleaning or re-assembling.  Going to sight it in tommorrow.  Which brings me to hopefully my last question.  The rifle has an older Leupold 2x7 power scope (no model number that I can see).  The scope seems fine and I know Leupold is a great manufacturer.  The problem is that when I looked at the sight adjustments, there is no indication as to how far each "click" adjusts the scope.  All the dial has on it is 12 tick marks with the  numbers (0-3-6-9-12) and whether the direction is up/down or left/right.  I dont know if each line is a 1/4" change, 1/2" change, etc...  Of course I can always do it by trial and error, but I figured that maybe you might already know the amswer.  Once again, thanks for all your help!

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

It sounds like you have one of the early versions of the 2x7's. I'm also guessing that it is a friction adjust as opposed to a click adjust. If so, you are not gong to actually have any "clicks" to count.... only graduation markings on the adjustment dials. Most of the models that I'm referring to had .25" adj. graduations at 100 yards.

This really is not too important unless you are in need of repeatability. In other words if you are sighing in for one distance and plan on leaving it there, the graduation increments are not critical. Just adjust until zero is where you desire it to be and leave it.

If you are in need of repeatability or in other words need to be able to adjust the scope from lets say 100yd. to 200yd to 250 etc. you would want to know how many clicks were what value at what distances for "re-adjustment" at various distances.

I hope this makes sense... if not let me know.

Its great to hear that that "we" accomplished the disassembly and reassemble successfully. Now lets hope that you have corrected the problem.

Hope your sight in session goes well and the gun functions ok. Let me know how that goes for you.

Good Shooting....
