Question
I have an old Winchester model 94 30-30 that my father gave me and I wanted to know the age. I have tried Winchester but they couldn't help me. It's serial number 3850629 if that helps. Anything you can provide would be great.
Answer
Hi Matt,
The Winchester model 94 that you have was made in 1972
The model 94 post 1964 lever action carbine was chambered for the .30-30, 7-30 Waters, and the .44mag. It is offered with a 20" or 24" barrel and has a 6-7 round tubular mag. It was available with a round barrel and open sights. It had a walnut stock with a blue finish.
In 1982 the 94 was modified to eject the empty brass on an angle as opposed to straight out of top of the action which caused scopes needing to be mounted off center.
There were many various models made over the years, too many to list here. The "basic" version in "good" condition would have a retail value of $150 to $200.
Thanks for the question.
