Question
My stepfather found this rifle in a closet in the 1920's. It is marked DJ STEVENS ARMS CO. MODEL 1915 and FAVORITE on the top of the barrel. It has 0186 stamped on the trigger guard underneath. It is a single shot 25 caliber, he called it a saddle gun. Unfortunately he is deceased so I know little about how old it is and if ammo can be found for it.
Answer
Hi Jim,
The "Favorite" J Stevens rifles were a series of rifles chambered for .22, .32.rimfire, and .25. The barrel is octagonal at 22" long, blued. It has an action that is of the takedown type with an interchangeable barrel feature. The Favorite was available with optional sights and buttplates. There were about 1,000,000 manufactured from 1893 to 1939.
As for ammo, I'd suggest that you check with the ammo experts at www.starsandstripesammo.com They can usually either supply or manufacture hard to find ammo.
Thanks for the question.
