Question
What would you recommend for a 12 gauge to shot 000 buckshot? I was looking at a browning pump with a 24 in barrel. I hunt thick pickers, vines and my long barrel get all caught up. I was wondering if the browning would hold a tight pattern. I think its a turkey gun with a super full choke. If not what would you recommend I look at. Thanks
Answer
Hi Roger,
The Browning BPS is a fine pump shotgun.
However, you do not want a turkey choke.
It will leave bruised and battered if you shoot buckshot
out of any tighter choke than modified. Even that is a bit much in the recoil department. Most deer barrels are cylinder or improved cylinder with rifle sites and 21" to 24" long depending on make and model. Unless the law requires buckshot
you might want a fully rifled barrel with rifle sites or a scope. Slugs are extremely accurate these days.
There is a 20.5 inch invector barrel for the BPS.
That would work.
Other Pump Shotguns chooses you might want to consider is;
Mossberg 500 Deer combo, its an excellent value.
Remington 870, and the Ithica Model 37.
