Question
Sid recently I came across an old shotgun I got from my father I dont know much about it but found you had answered a question about a single barrel shotgun from the Forehand Arms company with a serial number behind the trigger and corresponding number on the barrel, also its marked decarbonized steel on the barrel im not interested in shooting the gun but wandering the value of it, my father orignally won it in a card game and I bought it for $10.00 thinking it may be worth more but eventually forgot I had it,and just wandered if it was worth keeping?
Answer
Hi Clay,
As you more than likely have read in my previous responses, refrain from shooting the decarbonized steel gun. Same was designed for low pressure loads of black-powder.
As far as what they are worth, its difficult to say since they can range from $100 to $1000 depending upon factors that need personal inspection. If you really want to know the appraised value, I'd suggest that you have a qualified appraisal done on it.
Regardless of the exact inspected worth, I would say that yes, it is worth keeping and it has "value". At the low end of the spectrum its worth $100. That said, your particular gun has a bit of interesting history and being that it involved your Dad too, I'd keep it for "history" sake.
Thanks for the question Clay and Happy New Year!
