Question
What can you tell me this gun? A single short barrel shotgun with the following on the gun, Crescent Certified Shotgun, Crescent Davis Arms Corps, Norwich, Conn, 1274.
Answer
Hi Alice,
The Crescent Certified Shotgun is a .410 smooth bore pistol with a 12.25" barrel made from about 1930 to 1932 by the Crescent Davis Arms Corp. Norwich, Conn.
The gun is also known as the "Ever-Ready" model 200. They were made with a blue frame with some models made that had case hardening. I do not have any total production numbers but it is often described as being under 4000 total.
The Treasury Department ruled the .410 Crescent to be a "firearm" in the "any other weapon" category under the NFA in 1934 and sold new for about $11 !!
The barrel should be marked "Proof Tested 410 Gauge" on the top and "2-1/2IN SHELLS" on the middle left side. On the left side of the receiver is stamped "Crescent Certified Shotgun/Crescent-Davis Arms Corporation/Norwich, Conn. U.S.A. The earliest of these also have a .410 stamped at the top of the left side of the receiver near the breech.
In "Very Good" to "Exc." condition the average retail value on this gun is between $725 to $975. You can add about $100 to $200 for the original box.
Thanks for the question Alice.
