Personal Defense Concealed Handgun

Hello GCH,

After visiting a few forums comparing HKs & Sid Sauers, I decided I would choose a Sid because of their accuracy & trigger action. I will be using this as a concealed weapon with a handgun permit/training. I might go to the range & fire a box maybe once each month. The Sid I desire would be ss lightweight as possible & easily to fairly concealable. I realize that handling/firing one will also help refine one's choices. I read that the P 239 is concealable.

Could you assist my gun selection decision by relating which model of Sid Sauer semi automatic you would want to carry as a personal defense concealed weapon, if you're only choice in a gun would be a Sid?

Should I examine any things closely or in particular regarding these Sid handguns while shopping at gunstores?

For a concealed carry gun, the SIG 239 is about the only that will fill the bill.  All the other SIGs are too large and heavy for this use, unless you are considerably larger than average.

Of the SIGs, I've always like the 239.

My recommendation would be to find one with the DAK trigger. This is a lightweight (relatively speaking) double action only trigger that is easy to manipulate.  Most people (myself included) do better with guns if the trigger pull is the same each time.  I don't really care if it is single action or double action, as long as it doesn't change.  The standard SIG trigger is double action for the first shot, then single action thereafter until you de-cock it.  The DAK is an easy trigger, and is consistent from shot to shot.  If I were going to carry the 239, that is the set up I would carry.

Regarding caliber, my recommendation would be the .40.  Drawback is that this is more expensive than the 9mm, but is at the top of the heap for incapacitation (9mm with good ammunition is fine, .357 SIG has over penetration issues in the real world).

BTW, DAK is pronounced D.A.K - they are initials.  It stands for "Double Action Kellerman," Kellerman being the fellow who developed the trigger.
