.22 LR semiauto rifle

I'm buying a .22 LR semiauto rimfire rifle for target shooting and "plinking." No hunting. Is Ruger 10/22 a good choice? What is the preferred sighting system for daylight shooting; fiber optic, laser or scope?

The Ruger 10-22 is a fine all around .22 semi-auto for most of what you are going to want to do with it. I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but there is a long list of modifications/customizations that are available for the 10-22. Extremely versatile rifle for the money.

Preferred sighting system is somewhat subjective and my answer my not necessarily fit your needs and concerns. However that said, I would personally go with a good scope for all around use. An example of such scope is the Leupold .22 scope. Great glass, warranty, and versatility. I doubt that you'll ever be sorry going with a good grade scope (not limited to a Leupold necessarily). It will do most of what fiber optics and lasers will do only better.

Keep in mind that with a scope you have the advantage of magnification and you'll never hit what you can't see. Fiber optics and lasers have a place but I consider them more specialized and limited.

I realize that you indicated no hunting is planned with this rifle but IF you would ever decide to, most states will not allow use of a laser sight for taking game animals. Just a thought for you to ponder.
