a few days ago i purchased a used mod. tz75 9mm parabellum tanfoglio. before seeing it i have never heard of this make/model handgun. i want to know if it's an old gun, quality gun, a piece of garbage i should toss in the woods. any info would be great. thanks.
Answer
Ben,
Before the Czech Republic was free of the Soviet Block, CZ produced a pistol that was, for a 9mm, the envy of the free world. No less a .45 devote than Col. Jeff Cooper opined that if he ever was to own a 9mm, the CZ75 would be it.
It was and is a great gun, but before the Iron Curtain fell there was an import ban and they were hard to get hold of. They were much coveted and fetched a hefty price if you could get one.
That's all changed now, and CZ's can be had for a good price. But in the days when that was not so, Tanfaglio of Italy copied the design for the free world, and sold it as the TZ75.
Since CZ's are available, Tanfaglio has branched out into other markets, and their CZ copy is not as desirable at it once was. But it is a GREAT gun, and if you got if for a good price, even better. No, I would not toss it - it is a keeper. My guess is that it is late 70's to early 80's mfg.
Congratulations on a good purchase.
