Question
Hi Sid,
We found this gun in the attic and was wondering if it is worth anything? We did do some internet searches, even called Smith & Wesson. Just wondered if you knew what it was worth. They said the age was from 1906-1909.
Thank you for your time!!!!!
Wishing you a GREAT day,
Deb
Answer
Hi Deb,
The S&W .38 Military & Police is one of S&W more famous revolvers. Smith began production of this model in 1899. The M&P was a predecessor to the S&W M-10. The revolver fired the .38 Smith & Wesson Special.
Since you spoke with reps at S&W I'll defer to their estimation at to dates of production. Doing so would narrow down the revolver to actually being a .38 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 (M&P) which was manufactured between 1906 - 1909.
The value is very dependant on condition of course so I am only able to give you an approximate based upon the firearm being in good condition.
The approximate retail value of this gun in "good" condition would be $300 to $400.
I hope this helps and thanks for the question.
