Question
hi paul,
i recently purchased a gun. it reads on the barrell,Mauser Modleo Argentino 1891. it is a 6.5 mm rifle with what appears to be a stainless steel bolt action. it also has a built in clip and a rod that protrudes out from the stock at the top under the end of the barrell. in the rear, it has an adjustable peep site. stock is in pretty good condition, and the action and barrell is in very good condition. was wondering if you could give me a value on this. oh, the number stamped on the bolt handle is h4838 and there are two symbols after that. thanks for any help.
Answer
You have a basic Military Mauser. It sounds kinda original.
Unless they are primo condition with matching numbers, they not worth much.
Mausers are collectable but they have like new to worth much.
$100 to $175 depending on the exact condition.
They good shooters but not valuable as millions were made.
Here a link four Mauser collectors & info

Also this rifle was rebarreled at some point.
Argentina bought .43 Spanish and later
7.65x53mm Argentine.
I would have a gunsmith check the chamber and varify which 6.5mm round it was chambered for.
