Question
I have a J. Stevens Arms Co. .22 Cal Rifle in fair condition. The left side of the rifle say's J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls, Mass U.S.A and below that it says MARKSMAN. Also on the left side of the gun SVG is inside a circle. The right side of the gun says Trademark Stevens reg U.S. Pat Off & FGN. The gun is a single shot and breaks down in the middle by a cocking lever. I would like to know the value and a time frame of when the gun was manufactured. Thanks.
Answer
Drew,
The Marksman is but one of many (over a dozen) of the J. Stevens "Favorite" series of rifles. The Favorite was chambered for the .22, .25, and .32 rimfire.
There were approximately 1,000,000 manufactured between 1893 and 1939.
Although I cannot tell with a 100% accuracy exactly what year yours was made, I can tell you that the Marksman version was manufactured between 1911 and 1930.
In "good" condition it has an approximate retail value of $250 to $300.
Thanks for the Question Drew.
