Scope for J Stevens .22

Question
Hello,
I have a J Stevens Model 84c and im having some trouble finding a proper scope mount for it.
I've read that the name used on the rifle can give a clue to when it was made(pre or post Savage and so on) on the top of the barrel it says:
J. STEVENS ARMS COMPANY MODEL 84 C-
On the left side of the receiver it has 2 screws and a threaded hole where im assuming a screw went. The first screw is about 1/4 of an inch from the front of the breech, the second is 2.5 inches behind that, and the threaded hole is at the very back end of the receiver in the middle of a flat square area about .5x.5 inches
Answer
Hi Justin.
I am not a rifle expert and only have basic knowledge of the Stevens brand. I did some checking for you and found the following info:
J. Steven Arms Co.
Springfield Model 84 C
Made between 1940-48
.22 short, long, long rifle
Detachable 5 shot magazine
24" barrel
Post front sight, V notch mid sight, 3 position peep rear aperture
Blued metal with black painted, pot metal trigger guard
2 threaded holes in receiver for scope mount
To find out what type of scope mount is needed you should visit a gunsmith. Most of them can probably tell you right away for free and if it is a special mount then they might be able to get one or make one for you, or tap a new hole so you can use modern mounts. The following links have some more info on the rifle and manufacturer:

Hope this helps. Good luck!
