Question
I was recently given an ithaca m37 on receiver m38 on both barrels #90DU 37-1320 12ga pump. It has Du insignia on receiver along with gold DU emblem on botton of stock, stock is also multi-colored stripped and greenish in color I was told this was a special edition made for a raffel. I have looked at numerous pics and cannot find one that looks like this one. How can I find out about this gun and its value?
Answer
Hi Tyler,
There have been two Ithaca model 37's manufactured with the DU logo. One version was a model 37 that was a special edition made during 1977 with a serial number sequence of 40-DU0001 to 40-DU1125.
There was also a "trade grade" model 37 made in 1977 that was a lower grade than the special edition listed above. The serial number preceded with the mark DU37040. This appears to be the gun that you have.
These guns were manufactured for DU as "dinner guns" and were used at fund raising dinners as raffle and/or auction items.
The Special Edition in "very good" condition has an approximate retail value of $300, and the "Trade Grade" in "very good" condition has an approximate retail value of $350.
Keep in mind that in general, a commemorative firearm is worth little more than what a like model without the commemorative logos would be worth. There are exceptions to this such as a DU dinner gun collector wanting to purchase or the number of guns made was an extremely small run.
Thanks for the question Tyler.
