Question
I have a .410 Hercules Shingle shot shotgun with a hammer. It is not dated, but the numbers A90156 appear on the bottom of the barrel and the numbers 90156A appear on the inside of the receiver. "Hercules Montgomery Ward & Co." is inscribed on the side of the receiver. It is in firing condition. Do you know when it was made or how much it is worth?
Answer
Andy,
The "Hercules" was the trade name used by the Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works on shotguns made for the Montgomery Ward Co. Of Chicago.
The "Hercules" made for M.W. was a copy of the Iver Johnson "Champion" model which was manufactured between 1909 and 1956.
If the shotgun is in "Very Good" condition it would have an approximate retail value of $100.
Thank you for the question Andy.
