Question
Just inherited a stainless and it is a pain to keep clean. Second, I like open sights but would a scope be a prudent investment? I am getting better and shooting at targets further away example....My sig p226 just don't cut it at distance and I want to start hitting stuff further away. I must admit it is taking time to get used to the gun but I would really like to master it. Any advice before I go with one of those long barreled single shots that chamber rifle rounds? Thanks so much, john zunich
Answer
John,
If by "pain to keep clean" you mean the carbon rings on the cylinder face, once it is wiped down, these are not something to worry about. If you'd like, once a year you can use a product by Isso called Gun Brite to clean the gas rings, but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.
I don't know what kind of shooting you want to do. "Stuff far away" doesn't tell me anything. If it is just for plinking, pick up any of the books by Elmer Keith on long range handgun shooting (which he always did with a revolver and iron sights).
If you are going to shoot in silhouette competition, there are usually different categories and classes, some scoped some not, some single shot, some revolvers.
