Western Field 30.30

Question
I was given my grandpas Western Field 30.30. I know they were sold through Montgomery Wards in the 60's and 70's. I was just wondering when this particular one was manufactured and what the value is. I definitely plan on keeping and shooting this gun because that's what they're for. It's a Model 740 A-EMN serial number AA45921. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
Answer
Jack,
The rifle in question was manufactured by Marlin Firearms Co. and is the same as their model 336 and if in "good" condition would have an approximate retail value of $200.
Although I do not have any Western Field cross reference by serial numbers and therefor cannot provide the date of mfg. I can tell you that the model was introduced in 1948. I would however expect it to be in the year range that you are guessing at too.
If I happen to locate/procure a Western Field date of manufacture vs serial number records list, I'll pass the same along to you.
I hope this helps and thanks for the question Jack.
