Question
I have a .22 caliber J stevens Springfield model 82. I was wondering why kind of
ammunition this rifle takes? Could you also point me in the direction of where I
could go to purchase said ammunition (website or a description or something).
Thank you very much.
Answer
Michael,
If in doubt you should take the rifle to a qualified person who can personally inspect the rifle and advise you as to exactly what you have to include what ammo it can safely handle.
That disclaimer made........ I believe that you have but one of the dozens of inexpensive utilitarian single shot .22's made by Stevens.
There should be markings on the barrel somewhere advising of what .22 ammo the rifle was designed for E.G. S-L-LR which equates to short, long, and long rifle, OR...... all three are usually marked on the rifle in which case you may use any of the above.
You may also want to check out Numrich Gun Parts Co. which has many listings for old firearms such as the Stevens in question often complete with parts, schematics, and owners manuals. www.e-gunparts.com
Thanks for the question Michael.
