Question
Hello, sid, i would like to purchase an automatic handgun but have been leary because of having to take it apart and put it back together to clean it, i was afraid i would not put it back right, can you tell me if there are any gun models that would be easier than others to take apart and put back? I have 2 revolvers both s/w .38 now and have had firearm training. Any info or place you can point me would be great thank you
Answer
Marc,
Actually Marc, "most" semi-auto hand guns are going to share the same basic assembly/disassembly procedure with slight variations as to brand and model.
In my personal experience none of them are particularly difficult to take a part, clean, and reassemble. You are just "leary" due to a lack of experience. Most shooters have shared in that feeling at one time or another including me.
The good news is that in general, the manufactures disassembly/assembly/cleaning instructions are pretty reliable as to providing adequate information for you to accomplish this task.
If you are purchasing a semi-auto from a reputable dealer I would ask a person who works there to demonstrate the procedure (minus the cleaning) to you before you leave the store with it.
Choose the make and model that you want based upon quality and performance not upon how easy it may or may not be to disassemble and reassemble for cleaning. You will learn it well after just a few times of doing it regardless of which pistol that you choose.
Thanks for the question Marc.
