Question
Hi Sid, I just received a Western Field 16 gauge single shot rifle that was my great grandfathers, they think... :) The model number is M149. 20CAJ2 3/4 barrel is what seems to be imprinted as well. It's kind of worn off. If you could please tell me the approximate age and value of this gun I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time... Abbie
Answer
Hi Abbie,
I believe that your shotgun was actually manufactured by Mossberg for Western Field (chain/hardware name). There were a couple of dozen such models all with about the same value today.
The approximate retail value of your shotgun in "good" condition is $50 to $75. Although I do not have any records to confirm date of manufacture the vast majority of these were made in the 50's and 60's.
I hope this helps a bit and thanks for the question Abbie.
