I recently inherited a Stevens single shot .22 calibre rifle Serial number J992 and would like to know the year of manufacture. It would be great if you could help me.

Hi Kim.

The Blue Book of Firearms might have some info regarding serial numbers and manufacture dates.  You can purchase the section for Stevens rifles online for only $10 here:

Or you can buy the whole book online or at any local book store for $35.  If they don't have the information then you might not be able to find it since manufacturers are not required to publish this information.
