Duck hunting/North Dakota

2016/7/22 9:19:23

Question
I need to know if if I can use a shotgun to hunt ducks in North Dakota if I was charged with a felony in Minnesota?

Answer
Were you charged and acquitted, charged and convicted, or have the charges yet pending?

I am not a lawyer, but if you were convicted of a felony, federal law prohibits you from owning a firearm, or having one in your possession.  If charges are pending, it would keep you from owning one until the trial were concluded, and although I am not sure, I believe you would not be able to be in possession of one either.

If you were tried and exonerated (found not guilty), this should be no bar to owning a firearm.

If you fall into one of the other two categories, it is possible for you to petition the governor of your state to restore your rights.  This is usually done after a significant time has passed (e.g. 20-25 years) with no other negative involvement with the police.  You will need the services of an attorney to help you with this.

Good luck.
