Question
We recently purchased a Remington model 11 shotgun Serial# 383589. We would like to know how old it is and what it is worth? It has a 26" barrell. Was told that it is a police riot gun.
Answer
Hi,
The Remington model 11 is John M. Browning design that is the same as Browning Auto-5 produced by FN In Belgium.
They were made under licence from 1911 untill 1948.
300,000 were made in total.
There were 6 variations. If it was a riot gun it would be model 11R and have a 20 inch barrel.
Thoe model 11s without fanct finnishes are from $350 in excellent condition down to $100 in poor condition.
Averages ones $200 to $250.
Higher grade engraved models are collectable and far more valuable.
In terms a dating it
If it was made after 1921 a month and year will be acailable in a 3 letter code.
