J Stevens 22 single shot

My dad has a J Stevens 22 single shot long rifle with the number 973 on it. Made by J Stevens Arms Company in Chicopee Falls, Mass.We are trying to find out how old it is and the value.Can anyone help us?

Sorry I can't be of more help, but after digging around on the web, I don't have enough info to provide an answer. I need a model name or number. The J. Stevens company literally manufactured millions of rifles in this caliber over a period of time ranging from the late 1890s to the the 1970s and possibly later. If there are any other markings on the barrel that would help narrow it down.
