Browning 30-06 Safari

2016/7/22 9:18:45

Question
The serial number on my Safari is 3L1798X.  Was wondering what year it was made?  While no pitting is visible, I am thinking of selling and would like to confirm whether or not it could have a problem with a salt cured stock.  Also interested in value. The stock has minor scratchs from use and the blueing is better than 95%.  The bore is 100%.

Answer
Your rifle was made in 1963. The value all depends on condition and originality. Assuming the rifle is all original, meaning all the serial numbers match from the stock, bolt and barrel, it is not salty. The saltwood problems didn't begin until 1966.

The .30-06 is one of the most common calibers made for the Safari Grade. A range of value is $850-$1250, again depending on condition. It is hard to say without having it in hand. Hope this helps.
